Barter Kings

Common Sense Media says

Cashless trading show with savvy entrepreneurs, language.
Age
13
Quality

  • The series highlights the strategies employed when making cashless trades, some of which involve underplaying an item's value or otherwise trying to convince people to part with their goods.
  • The team employs tactics that make people think their items are less valuable than what they are in order to make a good trade, but they come off more like savvy businesspeople than scammers. There's some mild competition between the Steve and Antonio, but this is mostly out of fun.
  • Not applicable.
  • Some mild references to kissing.
  • Words like "bitch" are audible; "s--t" and "f--k" are bleeped.
  • Trade items include a vintage Kustom bass amp, Elvis memorabilia, and even a Monte Carlo. Ford trucks and Hummers are also visible.
  • Rare references to beer.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Barter Kings is a reality show targeted more at adults than kids. The main concern is language ("bitch"; "f--k," "s--t" bleeped), and some business tactics that might not seem fair. Monte Carlo cars, Ford trucks, and Hummers are some of the vehicles featured.

There's a sucker born every day!
It ought to be called how to screw people out of stuff and make them think it's their idea. Typical used car salesmen tactics, half truths and misrepresentations. The whole thrust of the program is "anyway you can make the deal." Typical "a little lie never hurt anybody" attitude...that is until they get stuck...which you'll never see.

Negotiation skills are important...
I personally really like the show because it uses an old concept: barter. Children should start to learn how to negotiate and guess the value of things as early as possible. I'm a barterer myself and I find it very rewarding. However, I prefer barterquest to craigslist because barterquest specializes in bartering.

Barter kings = TERRIBLE SHOW
I think this show is pointless, all they do is trade things for other things, don't bother watching it.
