  • Love is derailed by irresponsibility: "We got engaged on a Friday night/I swore on the head of our unborn child/That I could take care of the three of us/But I have the tendency to slip when the night's still wild/It's in my blood."

  • A father is unable to attach and commit to his family: "And then I come after they go to sleep/Like a stumbling ghost, I'll haunt this halls/There's a picture of us on our wedding day/I recognize the groom but I can't settle in this walls."
  • Not applicable.
  • More about love than sex: "Teenage rush...she held my hand...hold each other till the morning light." However, the mention of a sudden engagement and an unborn child points clearly to the consequences of unprotected sex.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that "Runaways" is a single from the alt-rock band, The Killers. The lyrics are clean but have a mature message of teenage passion, impulse, and irresponsibility, leading to a doomed, shotgun marriage. It's about getting caught up in the appeal of love, but being unwilling to follow through with commitments.
