Overexposed

Common Sense Media says

Pop songs about darker side of love; check out edited album.

  • There's a lot of arguing and fighting between the romantic partners in these songs, but other than that no overtly negative messages.

  • Many songs are about relationship woes, and the people involved don't always act maturely in the heat of the moment.

  • In "One More Night," a song about an unhealthy relationship, the fighting escalates to "throwing things."
  • Some heavily suggestive sexual references, like "Hold me, we're dancing in the dark of the night ... I light you up when I get inside."
  • The unedited version of "Payphone" has "s--t" and "f--k" in it, while additional tracks on a bonus version of the album include a few instances of "f--k."
  • Not applicable.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Overexposed isn't explicit pop music but is at a level beyond squeaky-clean records from teen bands like One Direction. The lyrics get pretty steamy at times, with several references to touching and spending the night together, though they never cross the line into graphic territory. The unedited version of "Payphone" has "s--t" and "f--k" in it, while a version of the album with bonus tracks drops the word "f--k" a couple more times. There's also a fair amount of fighting and arguing, with a few lines about "throwing things." Still, most tunes on the album are OK for older tweens.

Ok
My 12 year old cousin got this cd for me. I am 11, and my mom was not happy about the gift, because of the parental advisory explicit content

Maroon 5's best is maybe their iffiest
This is Maroon 5 at its best, but it is a little on the edge. It has lyrics in One More Night that say, "You and I go rough, We keep throwing things and slamming the doors" but the rest of the album is pretty age appropriate. In Payphone it says in the rap "F#%k that s$#t" which is the worst of the album. I give this album 4 out of 5 stars and 9 out of 10.

Not Bad
I luv Maroon Five, i've been listening to them since songs about jane. This album is so good. I know almost all the songs. The lyrics are good, too. Ryan Tedder, (one republic lead singer) wrote some of them. Parents: You should get the clean/edited album, because "one more night", "payphone", and "tickets" have cursing in them. I want to see what new stuff Maroon 5 has next.

A more mature album by a well-known pop-rock band.
This album is not for little kids. The unedited version bears a parental advisory label, as "Payphone" and "Tickets" (and "Wasted Years" on the deluxe version) are explicit. The lyrics are not sexually graphic, though. This album is not for younger kids; for older kids, get the edited version.

Maroon 5 is my favorite band!
The only song with any suggestive material is payphone, which drops the F bomb and S word a few times, but the entire album is fine with the exception of this one unedited song.
