  • Very easy to play. Parent instructions guide parents on how to help kids step-by-step through the games. The games themselves give clear prompts on what to do next. Large, clean graphics also cue kids on what to do. For example, a big rake leaning on the sandbox is an obvious eraser. Language options allow you to set for British English, American English, or French.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Montessori Letter Sounds HD doesn't have any fast-moving graphics or loud bells and whistles, which makes it a gentle way to introduce very young app users to pre-reading learning games. True to Montessori learning methods, this well-designed app teaches pre-reading skills such as letter sounds and shapes in colorful, uncluttered, and self-directed activities. Simple games, such as writing letters in a "sandbox" and matching letter sounds to photos on cards, mirror the tools used in real-world Montessori classrooms. This app will be helpful for pre-readers, and especially useful for kids already learning within the same methods.

Very different from all the other ABC apps
Just like being in a Montessori school..... I love the graphics. Some of the words are difficult but my son learned them (and so did I!) which is what I expect from an educational app!

Please save your money and choose another app
I purchased this app based on commonsensemedia's review and was very disappointed. Either the reviewer is not from the US or he did not thoroughly examine the app. Under the "Letter Sounds" section, some of the vowel sounds are incorrect and, therefore, that section is unusable. The other main section is the "I Spy" section. The child is to choose from an assortment of images to find one that starts with different letters. The image for N is a narwhal (I had no idea what it was - it kind of looks like a swordfish). The image for the letter O is an okapi. There are multiple other examples of image/letter combinations that are extremely confusing. The app was clearly not created by someone fluent in American English.
