  • You're a crime fighter, so that does have a positive message, of course -- but Spider-Man does use violence as part of his skill set, so you have to factor that in as well. Overall, however, you are attempting to stop bad guys in Manhattan and protect innocent people.
  • Generally speaking, Peter Parker/Spider-Man has admirable qualities: he's trying to protect the innocent from harm, clean up the city, and put an end to gangs and villains. But he uses violence to stop them -- along with web-slinging, acrobatic moves and stealth. But hey, he is the "friendly neighborhood Spider-Man."
  • The game is surprisingly easy to control, especially given the many moves at your fingertips. Developer Beenox cleverly layers on the difficulty at a slow pace, so you more or less master one move before learning another. Things do get tougher after a few chapters, however. And unfortunately, the checkpoint slots are far and few between, so if you die you might need to repeat a large portion of the level.
  • While there is no blood or gore, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN does contain a lot of violence. As Spidey, you must punch, kick, and use web-based combo attacks to defeat villains -- including humans, mutants, and robots. Close-up camera angles and slow-motion effects dramatize and sensationalize the comic book violence. Some cut-scene sequences might be disturbing to young kids, including a screaming person being injected with a needle and scientists being attacked by creatures.
  • Some subtle suggestive language can be heard from women characters in tight-fitting outfits, including lines like "Well, good to know you like to be on top." "I don't usually go this far on a first date."
  • The game contains some mild profanity including words like "ass," "bastard" and "hell" heard in dialogue sequences.
  • This game is tied to the motion picture of the same name, debuting in movie theaters at the same time. In fact, the game serves as an epilogue to the Columbia Pictures feature film, but it's part of the same world and marketing strategy, no doubt.
  • Not applicable.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know The Amazing Spider-Man is a "Teen"-rated comic book-themed game. If you're not OK with your kids reading Spider-Man comics or watching Spider-Man movies, then you won't want them playing the game, as there is a lot of violence -- though no blood or gore. Spider-Man engages in melee brawls with enemies and uses web-slinging moves, too. The game also has some mild suggestive themes and mild profanity.

This was a good game compared to others I have played.
This game is a little bit challenging. It does have some fighting. You barely can see it, but it does have a little bit of blood. But, 9-12yr olds will like this game a lot.

The Best Spider-Man Video Game since SM2!
This Game was very good. While it wasn't as good as the movie, it was still pretty good. I liked how the game tied-in with the movie. It was like TASM 1.5 There is a lot of violence and some innuendo but too subtle for kids. I'd say 11+ is good.

Great game, only one or two errors
One thing to note about this game is that it does revolve around violence. Although not to extreme is still should be noted that it is not suitable for young children. Still, it is a good role model as you fight to save people, and no one that you fight actually dies, which is a bonus. The story is set after the film so i suggest you see the film before playing. The game has only one annoying glitch, but it can be easily fixed by just looking online so overall i rate this game a 5/5. To finish it off, the duration of the gameplay is good with it taking a while to complete the game. I would deffinately recommend this game. I also think the free roam is awesome.

(Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PSP, Nintendo DS, Windows, PlayStation 2, Game Boy Advance)

Free-swinging adventure tangled up in dull action.

(Game Boy Advance)

Adventure never gets deep and is over too soon.

Kids use their Spidey-sense to help Spider-Man.
